Finally done with SAT prep, studying with finals, and TASP summer application (: Most of it went pretty well, especially the SATs, hopefully. I know I got at least one math question wrong and one vocab question wrong after reviewing the answers, though.

I have an 89.6% in AP Bio which hopefully will get bumped up to an A :)

Now I can go back to having a life, hahaha.

In other news how are my online friends? I suck at staying in touch :/

So. For English we're filming a video for The Scarlet Letter. With 14-people groups. Yessiree.

Although our group voted on a 1920s/Chicago-jazz-style theme, someone (i have no idea who/m) decided to switch it to a Charlie Chaplin-influenced video.

I can't decide whether we look more like My Chemical Romance in the "Black Parade" video, The Dresden Dolls, or panda/zombie hybrid children.

In other news, I've missed 3 consecutive weeks of chinese school for tests- practice ACT, PSAT, and FFSAT. And this week when I go back for the first time, I guess I gots some 'splaining to do for those low test scores that are inevitably coming.

College fair this friday/saturday (?) in seattle! who's going?

I went from having 0 jobs to 3- I'm officially a Bio-Chem tutor for three sophomores, 10$/hour per session. Pretty soon I'll be as rich as Brenda!

PSAT Countdown.

6 days.

Yeah. Also, notice the snazzy new header thing for my lj :D made in ten minutes, what WHAT. I think it's more fun to change around layouts constantly, but i really don't have the time/patience to make something high-quality so here you go. <333 paramore.

I have a question though- when you visit my lj, is there that annoying greyish bar on top that kind of covers up part of the header?

And a rant.

Why do so many people feel the need to rebel against academic society? People in my class are constantly trying to prove the teacher wrong, argue against points they think are incorrect, and pouting when they get it wrong. In discussions, they're the ones arguing against the prompt.

We had a timed write, 40 minutes, in English class a week ago, analyzing a certain Native American author and the effects of reservations on Native American lifestyles. The teacher gave us a general format to follow- intro, thesis must be one sentence, etc. etc. And people started complaining. Sometimes it's like, ugh please just deal. I just wrote my 40-minute thing and turned it in.
So last Monday he told us that he's finishing grading them but hasn't entered the grades into the computer yet, so no one would get them back....
"...except for Laura."

I was like, what? And then he goes on about how mine was especially touching and interesting to read. So when I go up there to collect it, people start cheering and I'm like, "wow this is embarassing." And the teacher asks me if I've "had previous writing successes." And i'm like...."kadlweiljflakdf not really." And he's like, "you have a very unique and individual style." So by that time I'm turning really red because it's so embarassing.

But it made me wonder- a lot of kids in my class probably wrote about a different aspect, and theirs were probably a lot more passionate and more deserving of attention than mine. Yet you know how you always can tell what the teacher's expecting in something like a writing prompt? I just went ahead and wrote through that perspective, even though I thought about it many different ways. And yeah, I got full points. But I don't feel like I deserved it.

So which one is better? Voicing your true opinion or just going along for the grade? I mean, it is just school, and class would move along hella faster if people wouldn't stop making contradictory comments all the time. But is acquiescing with the teacher being passive, giving in? Is it really all that bad?

That was a long ramble.

Nothing much else of substance to say.

So how are all of you? :)

Ok this is to make up for my slacker-ish entry last time :) That was just to prove to a certain someone that I would update my LJ and mean it. But now I'm really updating!

Two weeks into junior year so far and it hasn't killed me yet. My schedule is:
AP US History
Honors English
Calculus
AP Environmental Science
AP French
AP Biology

I remember signing up for the classes and thinking I'd be dead before the semester's over, but I honestly think it won't be too bad. Then again, come May I'll be freaking about, thinking about studying for 4 AP tests. :X

Saturday started a huge new Gym Class Heroes obsession for me. They're an indie-rap group (ha try to describe that in 10 words or less!) and they're awesome. I've started to actually listen to rap ever since Bumbershoot 2006.

BUMBERSHOOT! I never wrote a review for that. Well let's see, last last (last?) Sunday, 3 friends and I took the bus to Seattle to attend Bumbershoot 2006. We saw Spoon, The New Pornographers, Matt Costa, Blue Scholars, Crystal Skull, and (dun dun dun!) Kanye West. So I've experienced the mosh pit before, but standing in the middle of a group of crazed hip hop fans was something completely different. The energy and vibes were still the same, but something about it was just so... new and refreshing. It was fun. It's pretty exhilarating to shout the lyrics to a song and not feel that weird surge of emotions you get with more rock songs. Like shouting "WE WANT PRENUP!" at the top of your lungs is pretty damn awesome.

Currently I'm working on a History project about Native Americans. It's eh.

Oh we took our first test in US History, worth 200 points, and I aced it. I mean ACED. 100%. That never happens to me. I've never been one of those intuitively smart people who can read something once and comprehend it. But getting my first (and last) A+ on a test was probably the highlight of the week.

Oh and a reminder to everyone: VERONICA MARS SEASON 3 PREMIERES TUESDAY OCTOBER 3!

*EDIT: I am in the process of completely revamping my LJ layout :) OC is OVER.

If you haven't been to the Pacific Science Center recently, I highly recommend you pay a visit this summer to check out their new attraction, dedicated only to video games. Not only does it have like, over a hundred different games on many different consoles (original nintendo, sony's saturn, all the way to DDR, weird japanese DJ controls, and my favorite nintendo ds), but it also covers historyish topics and other features, like soundtracks and graphix. I volunteered at PSC today and had the time of my life :)

And it just so happens that I am an excellent racecar driver. What now, Mr. Cooper?

No but seriously. Visit. It's a lot of fun.

Sorry for the lack of updates :) But now I've got time, because of one word: summer.

Starting driver's ed soon!

I had my first group run for cross country yesterday night, and as of now it still hurts to walk down the stairs. It's like, "thud, ow. thud, ow. thud, ow."

California was fun! I scored so many new clothes, including a Norcal sweatshirt, Lucky jeans, and some oldschool Abercrombie. And Paul Frank! Eee I love cute animals :) I stayed at UC Davis for a day and saw my cousin finally graduate.

Oh and watched The Lake House. Julie claims it was better than the Notebook. But then again, she was near tears throughout the whole movie ;) When we came out all she could say was, "Wow. Guys. That was intense." Hahahaha. But go see it if you're hungry for some Keanu Reeves.

On a serious NSYNC kick right now. I don't know what's happening.

So I just did some massive cleaning up on my computer after it flashed "You have 0 MB of free space available". Complete with a giant red X. Quite freaky. Now I have exactly 937 MB... hmmm much better. I should probably stop downloading so much music.

Jamie introduced me to this awesome stuff called Coca-Cola Blak.
I loooove weekends.

The mom and sister went away for the weekend to Spokane for a math competition. She is such a nerd :D I wonder where she gets that from... hmm...

On Friday we went to this Greek restaurant. I had spanakopeta and baklava. And flaming cheese. With bourbon.

Saturday finished piano recital. Flunked, as usual.

Evening, went over to Deanne's house, did the QFC grocery thing and we made quesadillas and garlic bread for dinner. With chips and ice cream. yummy! Rented Brokeback Mountain. Emily and Carmen had already seen it, but Gabby, Eunice, Deanne and I were still brokeback virgins. Eunice and Deanne wouldn't stop laughing throughout the whole thing, I didn't get teary-eyed like Emily said, and so it wasn't as said as I thought it'd be. Good movie though.

Mmmtiredkthnxbye.

Newwwww layout. In honor of tonight's season finale of The OC. If you don't live on the West Coast, no posting spoilers. Or else. And no making fun of the oc.

Anyways. Layout made by Dani! It may be temporary or permanent, not sure yet. But it's a nice change from the blueness that my layout once was. Thanks Dani! And yeah, I know it doesn't completely match- I didn't feel like messing around with the code. So sue me.

If you haven't seen Cirque du Soleil- Varekai yet, go see it. It's in Marymoor right now, under the big circus tent thing. Hmm no surprise there. I went to see it last week, it's phenomenal. Bought the soundtrack/DVD, which was a huge rip-off, but was one of those things you HAD to have.

I have a paypal account! threadless here i come.

RIP Brent.

Blah.

I went to the PCC opening today. They have so much great stuff there, it's amazing. I'm really glad they finally have a local one- driving to Fremont was getting a little ridiculous. And a Whole Foods is opening soon too sometime next month, which rocks.

I'm opening a paypal account. Only for this girl: crestfallen_ind. Her stuff is so cute, I want a shirt or tote bag so bad :D

Too tired to think of my own words. Instead I'm borrowing them from Jesse Lacey.

This is a lesson in procrastination.
I kill myself because I'm so frustrated.
Every single second that I put it off
Means another lonely night I got to race the clock.
(I ignore it and it ignores me too.)
What say we go and crash your car?
And every time I leave you go and lock the door.
So I walk myself picking at a chip on my shoulder.
I'm another day late and one year older.
It's failure by design.

And we just want sleep.
But this night is hell.
I'm sick and sunk and I blame myself because I make things hard
and you're just trying to help.
I got no gas. (No Gas)
I'm winding out my gears.
This is one more day on the verge of tears.
And now my head hurts. (Head hurts)
And my health is a joke.
Now I got to stop because the headphones broke.

Two more hellish nights until it's over. Maybe I should just accept my paltry C+ and get on with my life.

Yesterday was the tennis mixed doubles barbeque :D Which was pretty fun. I brought cookies. Some barbeque, though. They only offered hot dogs. Oh well. Whee I love tennis.

I went to see the "Invisible Children" documentary at the PAC w/ Emily and Deanne. And yes, I tried to take notes. Score nerd points for me. The doc. itself was really sad- it was about these three college boys who went to Sudan, then ended up following the refugees up to Uganda where thousands of children each month are abducted by the rebel army up there to fight as child soldiers. There's a rally(?) tonight in Seattle at seven following the documentary. A bunch of people are going to Green Lake and sleeping on the streets tonight, to raise attention for the cause and to experience what these children go through everyday.

Going to catch up on sleep now by taking a 7-hour nap.

Soo... while I'm getting into the habit of updating my LJ, i'd also like to take this time to say...

iPods Suck.

Tis true. Mine just broke about half an hour ago. It erased all the songs off of it and won't update when I plug it into iTunes. I've had this piece of crap for 4 months, not even.

Gaaaah. I'm music deprived. I need muuusiiiicccccc. I'm beginning to think Melvin was right. (see Melvin's comment... here)

On other news, the research project is going great-ish. I'm always depressed when we study Africa :/ The only problem is, I have no idea what I'm gonna do for the "solution" part of my research paper. How am I supposed to solve a mass genocide issue? That plus AP chem prep has officially killed whatever social life I had left. God loves me.

Who never updates their LJ? Me!

Coming back with a vengeance tomorrow. Okay within the next week or so. With a new layout and everything. The "temporary" one kind of became the permanent one.

Soo what's going on people? I'm going to spend this time slacking off and reading your LJ's, ha.

Ummm school sucks as always. The AP Chem test is in like... less than three weeks. D: And war poetry is this biggest waste of time. I'm doing my research project on Sudan. With Saul. So that should be interesting.

This really kickass girl Kristen turned my handwriting into a font! Look!

Cool, huh? I know you're jealous. I titled the font "Laura" because it's my name. Plus I can be a little egotistical at times, and having stuff named after you is pretty cool.

Okay dinner time. My dad's barbequeing. Which means no options for me, unless he thoughtfully remembered to pick up some veggie burgers or tofu dogs for me.

But I'm not placing my bets on anything.

I'm such a nice person XD For my sister's birthday I got up at SEVEN *gasp* and baked a chocolate cake with vanilla frosting and rainbow sprinkles. Geez, where's my humanitarian award?

Macbeth is the most borrrrrrrring book to read EVER. That poorly produced movie version we watched was amusing though :P

Ach, I vont un Scottish axunt lyke Macbeth.

Onto sadder news. Soo for my sister's birthday I got my ears repierced. That was on the 28th, and today's the 30th... today they've been really irritating and they're starting to swell a little and turn red... :(

Damn. I was soo determined not to get them infected AGAIN. If I have to take them out I'll cry. Seriously.

XMAS

Eek. So Christmas has come and gone way too fast :/

I'm eager to know how everyone's big day/week was! So tellmetellmetellme.

Christmas Eve was okay, we had the whole Asian gang over for dinner. My mom had a panic attack while cooking the food, it was quite amusing. I haaaaate being the oldest kid at these family-friend dinner parties, and I never want to see another kid under five at our house ever again.

Christmas day- got woken up at 6 by my little sister. Checked to see what Santa left us. I told my dad the CD-rom expansion pack for the Sims isn't compatible with my version of the Sims 2, and that Santa ripped me off. He went ballistic, and Santa owes me a refund. :D

Giving/receiving presents was so much fun this year.
Emily: Thank youuuu for the CD and the magnetic bulletin board! Haha I remember checking out this CD sometime when we went shopping and thought it looked cool :) I'm listening to it right now on my *gasp* ipod!
Deanne: The necklace is sooo pretty, I love it! And it's blue AND on a leather-ish rope! Aaah it's gorgeous. Thank you soo much.
Brenda: Argh you're too kind. I loove the lip glosses... the creme brulee one smells too good. It makes me super hungry. And I <3 the apple one too!

I think that's everyone who semi-reads LJ :)

...I think now would be a good time to start all that holiday homework we have.

Winter Break

Well, it's finally here! :D

So on Sunday, my dad decides to get in some good, quality bonding time with me and my sister before he leaves on a work trip to Reno. We decide to go skiing, and leave the house at ten. Around ten-thirty we get a flat tire... and at about eleven we pull into Costco to get a replacement tire. It turns out we can't get our car looked at until 12:30, so we wander Costco and sneak free samples for about an hour and a half. FINALLY our car is done at around 1:00, and we reach Snoqualmie at around 2:00. We end up only skiing for two hours because the weather is so crappy, and end up heading home at around 4:30.

Man. What a waste of a sunday, huh?

Oh well, we stopped by some Chinese buffet in Issaquah for dinner. They had the best veggie egg-rolls... yumm. I guess that compensates for a crappy day, huh?

I shook all my Xmas presents today... I'm positive the small, heavy box is an ipod. Scoreee...

Still need to start on the massive amounts of winter break homework we got from World Studies and Chem. Gaaah..

I made breakfast today! :D Cinnamon french toast stuffed with strawberries and bananas, and scrambled eggs. Huge accomplishment, considering usually I just get cereal or something...

So, how's everyone else doing?
